After
School Program
The VCNC After School Program is for children in first through
eighth grade. The program meets every day after school until
5:30 PM. The after school program is a drop in program. The
After School Program includes an education power hour, free
time, computer lab access, open recreation, and a meal or
snack each day. The program serves over 250 Vera Court children
each year.
RISE
This program is designed to enhance middle school students'
knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics, and computer
literacy programming. The main two foci of this program are
homework completion and success in school. Students, family
school staff and VCNC work together to support school achievement.
The program is funded by a generous grant from Madison Community
Foundation.
Youth
Leadership
This program is designed for middle school students who strive
to be leaders in the community. The leadership program provides
opportunities for youth to discuss alcohol, drugs, making
positive choices and other issues facing todays youth.
Along with education the program provides wellness activities
including volunteering, group sports and middle school socials.
The Youth Leadership Program is funded by a grant from the
Capital Times Kid Fund.
Girl
Neighborhood Power Program
Girl Neighborhood Power (GNP) is a program for girls ages
9 - 14 that focus on developing positive self-images, cultural
pride, and making positive choices. This program meets three
times a week and includes computer club, academic support,
a dance troupe, journaling activities, and speakers
bureau.
Kids
Cafe
The center serves three wonderful meals a week for our youth
program participants and their families. Our chef, Mac, prepares
the meals that include: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, greens,
corn bread, meatloaf, etc. Volunteers are welcome to join
our community meals. Meals take place Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday evenings at 4:30.
Summer
Camp
During the summer the center offers an eight week enrolled
program for youth in first through eighth grades. The program
includes swim lessons, gardening, plays, arts & crafts,
reading club, computer classes, adventure club and many exciting
field trips. During summer camp students received breakfast,
lunch and snack each day. In 2002, over 35 students enrolled
in our full time summer camp program.
Life
as a Boy
A program designed for boys in 3rd-5th grade to provide them
with the opportunity to meet positive male role models. The
program will allow the boys to participate in discussions
and activities with adult male role models and mentors.
